Re: Deadline approaching in battle to save The Windmill

Pretty frustrated the dive is going to continue to exist. It's already an empty shell. Sainsbury's would have created a huge footfall in Kirkdale, maybe even a Caffe Nero might have opened near it. Sorry to hear it won't be happening. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://sydenham.org.uk/mobile.pn...

Re: Leaving Sydenham

I agree , best wishes Juliet where ever you are going. You can , of course , still use The Forum , even if you move to Forest Hill or Ponge. Going much further than that, I'm afraid - out of London to Kent. Otherwise I wouldn't be mourning the loss of That's Amore or my favourite pilates class at F...

Leaving Sydenham

This is my last week living in Sydenham after two and a bit years, and in an extreme act of packing-avoidance I thought I'd do a list of the high and low points. Discovering the Dolphin >> Discovering that the Woodman would never be a pub again The Sylvan Post opening >> The fact that the Greyhound ...

Re: Christmas Lights on Sydenham Road

I think putting lights in the new trees is a brilliant idea - it doesn't need to be a fir tree. I know it's on a different scale, but in Seville they put lights through all the orange trees at Christmas and it looks spectacular.

Re: Sydenham under a new flight path?

We appear to be on one of the principal arrivals paths. http://www.heathrowairport.com/static/Heathrow_Noise/Downloads/PDF/arr_west_2012_hq.pdf We always have been. That's from last year. I know. I didn't say it wasn't. But given that we always have been under the flight path, and anyone living or ...

Re: Too many estate agents on Sydenham Road?

I actually don't think the estate agents are the problem. Like them or loathe them, they're a sign that an area is on the up. And Forest Hill, East Dulwich etc. have just as many estate agents, and they have vibrant, lively high streets. But I agree with you about the betting shops, pawnbrokers and ...

Re: What do you think?

My elder sister went to Sydenham School in the late 50's and remember one day a week she brought home a meal she had cooked. Very nice it was to. I think all young ladies did domestic science then. I assume girls also learn cooking from their mothers and grandmothers , that is how it has always wor...

Re: Sports Direct is next in line to arrive in Sydenham

My wife bought me some work shirts from Primark and I asked her to return them of throw them in the bin, she wasn't too happy at first but now she knows never to buy from them again. I absolutely agree with your stand - wouldn't touch Primark with a barge pole. But this did make me wonder if your w...

If you're in the upper end, the Sylvan post in Forest Hill is definitely worth a visit - it's a converted post office which still retains lots of the original features.

Concerned that skeptic may be
committing a foul travesty
Of justice
In blaming an innocent cat
For the actions of a different hand
Or paw
Did you detect a pungent stink
That would make you think
Of fox?

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

If you want to go boozing in Sydenham. Within a two mile radius there are, off the top of my head, The Woodman, The Windmill, the one opposite The Windmill, The Railway (?), The Dolphin, The Golden Lion, The Alfred, and the one on Bell Green. There are another half a dozen on the Penge side and the...

Re: Why is there a lot of new graffiti on Sydenham High Stre

Simon - you really shouldn't waste your breath/ fingers. Art4 hasn't had a good word to say about the SEE3 project since she lost out on the tender to take part in it. And regardless of how much we, the residents of this area, say how much we support the project and appreciate all the effort that's ...
