Re: Charleville Circus
That was a fantastic read. Please keep them going. I was being brought up over a hundred miles away in the 50/60s but so many things chime. We were the lucky ones - no wars, hard working and dedicated parents building a new post-war life. So many of those austere things like sandwiches in bread wrap...

Re: Lewisham Council property investments
Well for better or worse Lewisham doesn't do grandiose. Both Labour Croydon & Tory Woking have one thing in common - trying to create a local Manhatten.
Looks more like Lewisham are trying to put their money into housing property which however inadequate is the best place for it nowadays.

Sydenham men aiding murderers and drug tafficers to escape convicted
Not seen reported in the national or local news media. But then there is virtually no reporting of Sydenham these days in the Newsshopper or South London Press. Two Sydenham crime bosses convicted of supplying false passports to A-list murderers, drug traffickers & dealers including Stephen Lawr...

Re: Green Chain Walk
Thanks Ian. We walked part of the Green Chain as part of TfL's Capital Ring walk which I do recommend - along with the London Loop. All change the way you look at London. Here is some combined signage for both on the Lower Sydenham/New Beckenham frontier: https://social.brainsys.com/system/media_att...

So he'll be out in 3 years then? 5 years minimum. This offender may qualify for the more serious crime category in which case they must serve at least two thirds of sentence in prison: https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/sentencing-and-the-council/types-of-sentence/determinate-prison-sentenc...

Lloyds Bank gunman jailed for 10 years
Sydenham Lloyds Bank armed robber jailed for 10 years. The robbery was in its final days before being closed in February 2022. It's now the new Starbucks (sigh). Lightopia in Crystal Palace Park gone bust
Remember how Lightopia took months to only partially reinstate the park last year? Well now they have just junked the installations littering the park - and somebody else is going to clear up the mess in what was South London's leading park. Another blow to our greatest recreation area? Story here: ...

Early morning knocking in Lower Sydenham
A South London woman has been left shaken after strangers attempted to get into her home at 2 o'clock in the morning and it is not the first time. The woman from Sydenham explained how she had recently had people knocking on her door in the early hours of the morning and that she was not alone. Neig...

We are fortunate to have two excellent posties who go the extra mile. They deserve better.
If you are not getting regular post - your issue is surely with RM management. Maybe you are experiencing similar treatment as their own staff.

Sydenham DO strike breaking
Got a Royal Mail email this morning saying a parcel would be delivered today. The surprise was it arrived. Not by our postman, not in a Royal Mail van but in an unmarked black van. I assume the Forest Hill/Sydenam DO managers hired in strike breakers who crossed picket lines. I could have waited a d...

Crystal Palace Fire - 86th anniversary today
I just posted this on Mastodon: On the evening of 30 November 1936, Sir Henry Buckland was walking his dog near the Palace with his daughter Crystal, named after the building, when they noticed a red glow within it ...
