Re: The Greyhound. Does it still exist?

Not sure how Charles Dickens character enters the fray
David Copperfield, magician, makes big things disappear - Statue of Liberty, stuff like that.

Re: The Greyhound. Does it still exist?

I thought exactly the same a couple of weeks ago. Maybe Purelake have employed that David Copperfield bloke, and when they take the screens away - ta daaaaa! no boozer. To be honest, I think it looks daft stuck in the middle of a modern development, as well as the fact it provides a great little all...

Re: Toddler football recommendations?

It's not really local, but its hard to beat the football for kids on a Saturday morning at JAGS sports club on the other side of Dulwich Village - Danny is the best coach in the area, and makes it great for all the kids from 2 to 10 (with a variety of matches, to keep them all happy). It is from abo...

Maybe get the street drinkers to go along for a sing song too - then we might see how tolerant their church is.

Re: My take on London's Riots

Along with everyone else, I was also shocked and horrified by events over the past few nights, and immediately thought that the only answer was water cannons, spraying the offenders with a coloured dye, and plastic bullets. I still believe - in the short term - that gangs who go out looting and sett...

Re: Is this the mosaic plans for sydenham?

Looks like it took about 10 minutes Seriously, cant we get something which looks a bit more modern? If it's going to adorn the busiest part of Sydenham for a good few years, we should get something with a bit more oooomph to it (my Grandma would have used the term 'with-it', which actually deserves ...

Re: Recommend me some books to read please

Apparently Hemingway would write something, then pare it down, and pare it down again, until he took all the excess out of it. Brilliant writing. I include Catcher in the Rye, as it seriously affected my outlook on life, when I first read it as a teenager. Having re-read it, I still think it is bril...

Re: Recommend me some books to read please

Pretty much anything by Hemingway should hit the mark - Death in the Afternoon is superb, as is A Farewell to Arms. To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm. Catcher in the Rye, anything by Iain Banks (for something more current) or Tom Robbins. Jake Arnott is cracking too, Dickens takes some beating. Fav...

If I'm not wrong, I think this thread was started by BBW, and it was about Big Issue sellers, so I will try to get it back on track. Besides, there are so many threads on the Forum, which turn into arguments on the British Class system, and head nowhere fast. I should know, I've contributed to most ...

Anyone remember the place? - I know it wasnt that long ago.

I never went in there, as they never seemed too inviting, whenever I was passing.

Was it any good?

The Dolphin

After only seemingly reading negative stuff about The Dolphin, we went down there on Saturday night (first time eating in there for a good few months). I have to say it was really very good; we had a pretty wide selection of meals, including mussels, cod and rump steak, and each of them was perfect....

The old Seven Eleven shop

Had to get some bread and basil the other night on the way home, and popped into the shop next to The Two Halves. Amazing place ! Great selection of cheeses from the Med - and an incredible selection of Middle Eastern breads (and the basil). I bought some Iranian bread (like a giant - and I mean GIA...
