No, she mustn't. My postcode produces the identical profile on upmystreet, and I don't live on Hall Drive.

There are posh(er) streets or enclaves all over the place, particularly, I suspect, in London. But it appears that there are fewer of them, or that they're smaller, in Sydenham (ward) than in some neighbouring wards - Forest Hill certainly, Penge possibly.

In September 2007 'Observer' on http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/guide/seat-profiles/lewishamwestandpenge?cp=4 gives some interesting information (though without any indication of its source): 'Penge and Cator, the largest ward in the constituency, covering Penge, an area proverbial for suburban formles...

Eagle, the Tory candidate for the new constituency in Chris Phillips. He called on me the other day - says he wants to meet everyone in the constituency! If you want more info on him and the political profile of the new constituency, you will be interested to see http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/guide/s...

I tried twice last night to compose a response to recent comments, but on both occasions lost the text at the last moment. Can Dark Forces be at work? (Only joking - I think!) First of all, don’t you worry either, lambchops. I’ve never dreamt of ‘demanding or expecting’ anything on this thread. And,...

Thank you, everybody who responded to my query - I’m particularly grateful to Admin, Barty and Bensonby. Perhaps I should clarify what lay behind my question. I wasn’t meaning to suggest that the rules for moderating the forum should be changed. I agree that the present light touch moderation is exc...

A recent poster on this forum (see http://sydenham.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24581) used 'Christ!' as a jocular expression of surprise. This usage gives unnecessary offence to many people, and I must say it makes me feel uncomfortable. Should it be avoided on the forum, I wonder?

I wasn't 'claiming', Nasaroc (or may I call you 'Nasa'?), but 'asking'. But thanks anyway. I realized soon after posting that the hypothesis I was putting forward was probably wrong, for the reasons you give. Do you have your own theory to explain the figures Thomas has drawn attention to? One wonde...

I wonder whether crime levels in an area tend to be positively correlated with the range of the distribution of wealth and other forms of social advantage? I suspect - someone may prove me wrong - that the distribution in Sydenham is wider than in other parts of Lewisham i.e. that we have both lots ...

<<On another issue - here's a startling piece of news from TfL. Currently, 1.5m passengers a year go into or leave Sydenham Station. Within a year of the new ELL opening, TfL estimate that the number of passengers will increase fivefold. In other words, within a couple of years 6m passengers will be...

Bicycle thieves

A neighbour who lives in Radlet Avenue has told me that two children's bicycles were stolen from her back garden whilst they were away during half term. Apparently a group of boys were seen hanging around in the street on Monday evening and it is assumed that someone climbed over her side gate. A de...

Here is the substance of an interesting email I've just received from Lewisham's 'Transport Policy and Planning', following an enquiry from me about the poor and potentially dangerous conditions near where I live in Upper Sydenham. Emboldments (is this a word?) are mine. Thank you for your email. Du...

A roadsweeper told me this morning that Lewisham had run out of salt.,or were at any rate rationing it severely. I could find nothing to confirm this on the Lewisham borough website - http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/TransportAndStreets/RoadsAndPavements/RoadAndPathwayMaintenance/RoadGritting/ - although ...

Our hilly cul-de-sac was gritted - not at all effectively- on Sunday evening and much of it has been a sheet of ice since Monday morning. It remains extremely difficult to negotiate in a car - in fact, I personally have wimped out and left the car in the driveway. Can anyone offer any hope that Lewi...

No, the application hasn't been withdrawn, Ram tells me - it's merely that council planning and development officers need longer to look at it. Earliest possible meeting date now 18 December.

New Tesco in Kirkdale?

Ram has told me that the Tesco application is not after all on the agenda for the Lewisham planning meeting on 20 November. He's not yet found out why - does anybody know? He's heard a suggestion that Tesco might have withdrawn the application in the light of the current economic conditions.

New Tesco in Kirkdale?

Ram tells me that the Tesco application is to be considered by the Lewisham planning committee on 20 November. Anticipating a favourable decision, Tesco have also applied for permission to erect anti-ram (NB small r) street bollards and for an off-licence.
