Re: Bell Green Travis Perkins

As an HGV lorry loader driver currently commuting to Mitcham every day, I’m pleased that TP have made plans :) Yes you’ll see articulated lorries unloading on a daily basis but I don’t see it as being any different to the other companies already situated on that site. There's a Travis Perkins in Fo...

Re: Bell Green: A SydSoc view of s106 Monies

They were supposed to fill it in and then start chopping it, but I think as they had the cranes on site they chopped a few bits out while they were still there. Perhaps they anticipated the first holder taking longer to dismantle? They finished it off by smashing the last level up, so there was a lo...

They were filling in the huge hole in the ground, in the middle of it.

Re: Bell Green Masterplan Presentation at Bellingham Assembly

Can't see any reason why they shouldn't ask SGN to postpone, if the frames, or a portion of them could be used to add character and heritage to the area they are hoping to regenerate. Must be better than saying nothing as they are melted down for scrap and then coming up with an idea for them. Parti...

Re: Supreme Fish Bar

If they are passing off a cheap fish as cod, perhaps it needs to be reported? There’s the possibility of a public health risk there, i think. I’m so sad to read this - we’ve been getting our fish there for more than ten years. It was alway fresh, tasty and HUGE. One way to start a vicious rumour an...

Re: Queensthorpe Road Smart Bench

I like the benches and have used the charger at the one in Bell Green. Quite frankly, the bus stop a few metres away is the biggest piece of clutter in the area, slapped down in the middle of the pavement, barely passable with a pushchair even when people aren't sitting on the wall. Another sterling...

Re: What is happening on Sydenham Road right now?

It was a scooter, widely referred to in the media as a moped, although that classification requires a small engine and, in my mind, pedals.

Re: Wasps Nest

Just had one killed off in the eaves. £60. Lewisham Council. (£30 concessions). Rentokill online quote was nearly £300. Only had it done because we have two small kids and they (the wasps that is), apparently get a bit aggressive once the nest dies off naturally late summer/ early autumn. https://ww...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night

Lewisham's noise 'service' is truly appalling. Bad enough that it's only open office hours, but you struggle to get a response even when they are working. So, basically, you can have huge parties in Lewisham at any time of the week or day and the most that will probably happen is you might get a let...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

I see Syd Soc are still talking about the peregrine falcons Even though the independent experts have already determined that they are NOT an issue for the demolition because they don’t nest there Strange how people only listen to experts when it suits their personal preferences Are these independen...

Really struggle to understand this forum at times. Just seems like a place to try and dismantle anything positive going on. I joined because I was doing a stall at the market, quite a few years ago, but all I ever saw was moans, whilst what I experienced was a distinct apathy in turnout and trade. No...

Re: Toys R Us

The cinema is probably one of the most forward thinking and positive suggestions I've seen among the continual pining for an Aldi and bitterness over some gas towers still existing. Aldi was rejected because of the traffic it would generate, which affects people who live in the area. The gas towers ...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green

Just a thought, but presumably if the gas holders were knocked down, they could build an Aldi with flats on top of it - everyone’s a winner! Might not look all that nice, but then Bell Green is hardly an area of outstanding natural beauty is it? A couple of points 1. An Aldi will attract shoppers w...

Re: New houses proposed

To my untrained eye it looks like some chancer wants to make some cash from a bit of land that is filled with trees and right next to a railway line. Trees which presumably shield the existing buildings from noise and provide habitat for wildlife. It doesn't look like a development opportunity to me...

Meanwhile... over in Oval, plans are in to build housing inside the (listed) gas holders, as was done in King's Cross.
