I am still amazed that no photographs have survived of what was a ground breaking invention. There also appear to be no first hand accounts of the ride. You would have thought that some one would have written about the experience in typical Victorian fashion, especially the noise of the partial vacuu...

Yes I remember the shop well. My father took a locomotive made by tri-ang to the shop to be repaired. When he collected it the bloke gave him a Hornby engine which used a three rail system instead of two and swore blind it was the one my dad gave him. The bloke was a tall slim man with a pencil mous...

A piece of string 176 yards long would be interesting. I'd be up for it but would need an accomplice. Anyone out there?

Would somebody please explain what the hell was all that about!!Who did what to who about what and when? Why has Falkor gone off in a huff? Was it because he did not get the recognition he felt he deserved? Personally I shall miss his posts and his enthusiasm for local history. He appeared to be disa...

witches chimney

Does anyone have any recollections of the witches chimney. I have heard it mentioned a few times during my years of interest with the CP. People have said that it was situated just north of where the artificial geo-strata folly is behind the waterfall/bridge. I do not know of it's purpose or if ther...

How in hells name do these magnificent buildings disappear?- I'm sure it survived the war. The framework behind looks like the lattice work structure that supported the massive water tanks which were demolished only recently.

I'm not sure which came first, the church or the town hall, but the architects, in those days, showed great awareness. Just look at the symmetry and how they compliment each other. After demolishing the church the council replaced it with it an almighty coffin!

Very interesting Falkor. I wish I could upload my photos because I have conclusive proof that Penge was still a hamlet in 1875.

271 Stanstead road The Prince Of Wales

271 Stanstead road looks very interesting. A detatched building which has undergone changes to the front elevation, probably in the late 20,s. Sits quite high and back from the road.I think this could have some hidden treasures and intrigue. I wonder if the present occupants are aware of it's histor...
