I really don't think we need that 'friend or foe' thingy. Did that come as default with the new design?
Now, should I reveal a bit more about myself and put up my website? Not sure about that either. It would be weird if one of you recognized me in Morelys. Weird and embarrassing.

Re: What's akin with The Dolphin?
Global Thinker - everyone knows there is a law of diminishing returns on a forum thread. The longer it gets, and the older it is, the less relevance it has to the OP. Just read the first page and leave it at that. You'll have got all the relevant info the thread is ever likely to contain. Of course,...

Re: Legal advice sought....
It sounds complicated, and you may want to get some specialist advice - maybe try the CAB, or the insurance ombidsman. The insurance industry has a code of conduct for dealing with subsidence. I think you should talk to the management agency, find out if there has been a change of insurer and of so,...

Re: Legal advice sought....
We have lived in two houses with subsidence and in both cases the insurers when the subsidence was first noted were legally required to go on offering insurance for the house, as other insurers won't take it on. So I'm surprised that the current insurers have only been covering the property for thre...

Thanks for the recommendations, Admin. I don't like to mutter behind people's backs either, which is why I emailed the SE23 admin with my concerns and gave him time to reply. I would have posted the above on SE23.com but I doubt it would appear for than five minutes. No admin is perfect, some are be...

Our dear admin here in Sydenham tells us that he has met SE23 admin and they discussed moderation and had similar views. So I'd be very interested to hear what our admin has to say about the bizarre experience I've just had on SE23.com. I posted a request for recommendations for a bike repair shop. ...

Like all these things, it depends. Depends on the child / children, depends on the route, etc. I don't worry about my kids being snatched, but I do worry about the traffic, because there are some loonies out there who will drive around a lollypop man / lady rather than stop. But that's exactly why I...

I also have a foot in both postcodes. When my house was built in the late 1800s it was, according to the original deeds, in Sydenham, Kent. Now it is in Forest Hill, but only just. Two houses down and the postcode changes to SE26. Which is why you will find me both here and on the SE23 forum. There ...

The East Dulwich Writers' Group has members from all over south-east London, several of them from the Sydenham area (including yours truly). The group published an anthology, Hoovering the Roof last year and it has been so successful, we've done another print run. We have a number of events coming u...

Michael - that was a rather heavy handed response. The tone of the OP was more disappointed than malicious. And to be fair to them, it sounds like they did take it up with staff at the time, but didn't get satisfaction. They praised the offer of free desserts and drinks. The general point was that t...

Books for charity
Does anyone know of a local charity that will come and collect a couple of hundred books? I don't want to wait until the next time the British Heart Foundation leave a little bag and then put out lots of heavy boxes for them! Can the hospice use them, I wonder? Suggestions appreciated.
