Re: Westwood House Care Home
Thanks all for the suggestions and kind thoughts . We looked at Westwood House today. Absolutely no criticism , real or implied of the home and staff , who very friendly and seemed committed , but it was just not the kind of community our relative would have been happy in . The search widens . Thank...

Westwood House Care Home
We are looking for permanent residential care for a relative who has moderate dementia and thinking about Westwood House . I would be really grateful to hear from anyone who has knowledge or experience of the place - good or bad . Nearness is really useful to allow us to have more contact but obviou...

Re: New bakers to open in Kirkdale
Spartacus Petty regionalism has prompted you to speak rashly and extravagantly , again . I didn't refer to their "Cornish pasties" but "their pasties ". I know the difference , having made my own Cornish pasties with beef skirt from Billings , potato , swede and onions . Perhaps ...

For me , Huuuuuuuge amount of tree planting all along the high street, artistic bollards to keep pedestrians safe from thug-man-baby drivers parking and driving on the pavements and even more trees on the highstreet

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Ben Is there any update yet ? The longer it goes on the more entrenched it will become - on a technical point ( and please let's not this become a council of despair ) who's failing to do what here ? Is it the local authority , parking enforcement, leaseholder ? I know the culprits are the man-babie...

Re: New bakers to open in Kirkdale
Me too . I really wish The Cake Store would branch out a bit . No problem with their pasties , Croissants( these are really good actually - so I KNOW they can do it !), sandwiches and some of their cakes but I really never buy bread there . It doesn't have to be fancy shmancy but it could be so much...

Billings Christmas food
Anyone who knows me would agree that ,at best , I would register medium-gloomy on any jolliness scale - Christmas time being no different . I do however perk up at the thought of nice food . Yesterday in Billings I bought a huge lump of Classic Pork sausage meat - i.e. the precious essence of the sa...

Re: Crystal Palace Winter Wonderland
Owl wise - if it helps , " stop funding hate " is what happens when the middle classes run out of things to be angry about . It's a campaign to dissuade businesses, notably John Lewis , from placing adverts with newspapers that hold different views . They have targeted the Sun and the Mail...

Re: Penge Homebase closing - or perhaps not?
That is great to hear staff not losing jobs . I don't know if it's just a coincidence but we went in to see if there was a standard lamp going cheap and I noticed they had a wide range of wall fixings . I don't usually use that place for any DIY stuff but last time I ventured in , one evening after ...

Much appreciated - just to add its in no way restricted to that pavement towards Home Park - the problem goes all the way up the high street .

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Just to second HissingSyd's request . Ideally a barrage of trees to stop pavement parking but a combination of bollards and trees is now essential . We seem to have reached a tipping point where ordinary people see ignorant thugs parking on the pavements , see them get away with and start to have a ...

Lee Fully agree - the housing crisis has created an environment where landlords can turn towns into favellas with crappy housing and buggered up streetscapes with inappropriate architectural eyesores , whilst people defend them as somehow contributing to the housing stock . It also reveals the lack ...

Re: Building work by Penge east station
Went in there today - perhaps early days but a bit underwhelmed- all the food seemed to be in cellophane and nothing seemed to be actually made there . I was hoping for nice pastries and fresh sandwiches . Coffee was nice . Interestingly the booth in the station - Sheriff's- seems to be selling a re...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
The Sydenham film club uses the Sydenham Centre ( no longer Naborhood Centre ) having moved from the Grove Centre - its once a month but a great opportunity to see film you probably would never see and should be supported to the maximum . There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for the idea of cinema ...

In the name of arse - I was making a snarky and frivolous point about FH getting more nice things than us - which they do . I have been as supportive of as many sydenham enterprises as any one - despite being lukewarm about Nando's . I feel like I've wandered into some awful " safe space "...

Re: Little Nans Bar Seek Space
I don't know about Bugger Bognor but f.. Forest Hill for getting all the new stuff whilst we try to fake arousal and enjoyment for a bloody chicken shop . I can see why they would see it as less risky to start up in FH and it's not because Syd Soc rightfully want to understand how Nando's are going ...

If there was in your post , a rational argument for decision-making without without full facts then ,my apologies , I missed it .
I have tried it and it's horrible but that's not my point . I dislike tattoos but very happy to have the Inkwa shop in Sydenham .
