Well the Greyhound is now shut. The question is therefore now what we can do with the site. This means full community involvement. There used to be something called planning for real - a process where the locals were invited essentially to start with a blank piece of paper and set out what they want...

I have thought long and hard before posting this reply and I fear that some of what I say will not be popular. It may even mean not being invited to play cricket again if it ever happens. A risk I am afraid I am prepared to take! Firstly I hope we can agree this site is the most important brown fiel...

OK folks its time for a spot of realism. What ever the good intensions of the Sydenham Society the Greyhound will not be retained as a pub. It is now owned by a property developer. The differential price between the value of the site for residential use as opposed to commercial is so vaste as to mak...

And one more thing - and I am very angry about Jules comments as I am sure you can tell - that those comments reflect the middle class bias of this site (and yes I am middle class, but at least recognise the fact and recognise that not everyone, and perhaps the majotity of people in the area, are no...

That is the sort of very insulting remark I did not expect to see on this site. You should perhaps be aware that the majority of property to the rear of the Greyhound is Social Housing, owned by either the Council or Housing Associations. I am afraid therefore that you do not (or certainly more that...

Whilst there is some architectural merit to the front of the Greyhound, the back and sides hold none I am afraid. There have been additions and partial demolitions over the years and as such it really does not merit all the appreciation that is being heeped upon it. A sensible redevelopment, pehaps ...

I couldn't agree more with Illuminance. If you are going to fund improvements to the park it has to be paid for and I am afraid housing is the best way. I didn't get to the exhibition but if there is a development of that size 50% will have to be social housing - either for rent or low cost for sale...

Just to say I just spoke to the Area Manager - the pub has been sold again and the new owners take over in 4 weeks. So everything up in the air. I forget the name of the company but they own a number of properties in the area and are also developers! Current plans to run it as a going concern but gi...

Well I live nearby and have to suffer teh problems. I don't go in because I don't want to coplain in an environment where I will feel intimidated. So i try to phone. trouble is, what ever the time of the day or night the staff never answer the call. If that is their atitude to customer care or deali...

There has to be social housing for 2 reasons. Firstly and to be prosaic, because the London Plan and local planning policy then you have to. On a development tbe size of the greyhound site that would ahve to be 50%. Secondly because social housing is needed. Social housing does not need to be to ren...

I couldn't agree more with gillyjp. Not everyone has the choice of where to live and with escalating house prices it will get worse not better. What confuses me is how the issues of the Greyhound and the station have been linked, unless it is in terms of an overall redevelopment of the whole area th...

Bell green the next stage
Hopefully the planning application for the retail park will be rejected at the public enquiry. We do however need to start planning for the next stage. If retail is rejected property developers will be eyeing the site with eager anticipation for housing ( which is the best use of the site). We there...
