it currently resembles an ironmongers in Belfast in the early 70s.
I would disagree. No iron pipes, sodium chlorate weedkiller or ammonium nitrate fertiliser :-)

Enjoy home delivery whilst you can. If the new European proposals concerning motorcycle licenses are implemented in 2013 then learners will lose the right to ride unaccompanied - which will end most pizza deliveries!

Butcher closed down?

My wife and I regularly go to Sargent's, the butcher at 341 Sydenham Road in the vicinity of Bell Corner, because their meat is excellent. Today the shop was closed and empty, and a notice taped inside the window from 'County Bailiffs' indicated that the premises had been re-entered due to lease ter...

I don't really understand the quite recent US import of 'Halloween' celebrations. What are they celebrating? Trick or Treat, and the costumes, may be American imports but in the 50's as a child on Tyneside Halloween was celebrated as 'Dookie Apple Night'. In addition to dunking for apples we had tu...

I have a PC and checking the 'remember me' box on the login screen has no effect for me either. Logins on other sites are remembered successfully. I assume that STF does not set the required cookies.

• Why do we have so many estate agent boards cluttering up the fronts of shops in the high street? For me the boards are the greatest eyesores on Sydenham Road. They destroy the continuity of the facade of the buildings on the north side of the street, which would otherwise be quite impressive desp...

Similarly to the other set of temporary traffic lights there is nowhere to safely cross the road again... I actually find it easier to cross Sydenham Road now that the temporary traffic lights are in place, since there are now windows with one direction solid with waiting cars and nothing coming th...

Excellent report you posted; good and accurate summary well laid out with very neat use of pictures. I am not 'brown nosing', but am genuinely impressed with the report and the speed with which it was made available.

Why would I want to go to Shoreditch?? Why would anyone from Shoreditch want to come to Sydenham- why would ANYONE want to come to Sydenham? We moved to Sydenham from Chigwell a couple of years ago. Friends and family still live in East London. For us the ELL will be really useful. Actually, compar...

We are not allowed to have an external aerial (listed building) so have a high-gain one mounted in the loft. The multiplex carrying BBC has the weakest signal and is sensitive to weather conditions. Last night we had to abandon Newsnight and watch The Wire on DVD instead. Cannot say I was too unhapp...

I finally got my speakers (built in 1974 - Kefkit 3's in damped transmission line enclosures) set up in the Sydenham house by dint of placing them on their sides, covering with thin drapes and cushions, and pretending they were bench seats - they are BIG mothers! No room left for my separates, and t...

I reckoned it was about 200 yards SW of the Newlands Park/Sydenham Road junction. I had a little wander round there today hoping to see signs of dramatic damage, but no such luck

The situation on Sydenham Road is better than it used to be. Angie's flower stall outside the post office is a lot more attractive than the benchful of drinkers was. The drinkers now seem to congregate outside the closed-down Hypermarket, where there is a good breadth of pavement for the fastidious ...
