Re: No Water

The region of low pressure had extended to the Sydenham Road / Newlands Park junction by yesterday morning. Too low for the shower heater to cut in, Cold showers are so bracing, are they not?

Re: Starts tonight! Three Men in a Boat at the Sydenham Cent

Three Men in a Boat was, and still is, a very funny book. I suspect many people, if they have heard of it at all, associate it with the farcical 1956 film version starring Jimmy Edwards, or the 1975 TV adaptation by Tom Stoppard as a travelogue. Spontaneous Productions have remained more true to the...

Re: Hi-Fi repair?

I am still using my damped transmission line speakers driven by Kef Kit 3 (a Kef Concerto without enclosure) constructed in 1975! Admittedly the only way I got permission to move them to our small house in Sydenham was by having them placed on their sides, with squab cushions on top, so that they co...

Re: Hi-Fi repair?

[quote="pip"I intend to take my 30+ year old Nad amp there for repair.[/quote] Would that be a NAD 3020? I retired mine to the attic when we moved to Sydenham 10 years ago since lack of space forced the purchase of an all-in-one unit. It was still working fine, but the tone and volume cont...

Re: Sydenham Green Group Practice

The fundamental problem is that the practice is understaffed. This is not through choice, and they are not alone in this. GP practices across the country are desperately trying to recruit more staff. No booking system will compensate for having a pint in a quart pot.

Re: Istanbul 'supermarket'

this seems to have drifted from Istanbul to PFC - I've never had any problems with PFC and chose it over the other similar store - not that i would think of it as high on my list of wine outlets PFC have some very good wine offers if you are not looking for fancy wines. The 'charging problem' only ...

Re: Street planters

We have a strip of concrete between our back fence and the road. It always attracted rubbish, and I had to clean it up regularly. During a couple of years of serious illness I was not able to do this, and it became a dumping ground. About three years ago we had it cleared (there was some nasty stuff...

Re: Traffic cameras

Can anyone point me in the direction of how you would ask to have cameras put up regarding speeding/running red lights? I think they are normally situated where the accident statistics indicate a problem. They are expensive to set up, so there has to be a need. I live at the Newlands Park / Sydenha...

Music Reproduction Quality (warning - geeky!)

A few years ago I started switching over from album/CD to mp3 for my music collection; primarily to enable use of a portable player. At first I just ripped using the Windows Media Player default (128 kbps), and that was OK when on the move but the mp3's sounded noticeably worse compared to the origi...

Cash Machine Harrassment

My wife has just had the unfortunate experience, at the cash machine outside Tesco Direct on Sydenham Road near the Newlands Park junction, of having a guy lean over her and manipulate the keypad, making three attempts to interfere with her transaction until she shouted at him to go away. This meant...

Cold Call - There is a problem with your computer

A typical exchange this morning: Me: Hello. (already suspicious about an 'Out of Area' caller) Villain: Hello my name is John. I am calling from the technical department of your internet supplier (a change; normally it is Microsoft Support). There is a problem with your router. ..; series of exchang...

Re: Celebrating Brexit.

I guess I am an early casualty of Brexit. An Italian firm, with which I did a significant proportion of my business, has decided on an immediate withdrawal from the UK effective from mid-July, and have closed down the e-commerce hub which I supported. :-(

Re: Celebrating Brexit.

For those of you who aren't celebrating Brexit - please consider signing this petition. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215 Despite Nigel Farage having said that if it had been 52/48 for Remain he would consider the result indecisive and fight on, I do not see what that petition could a...
