Re: Lidl shut

Stuart - Thanks for the information. I confirm that the Penge Lidl is marginally closer to us (by a couple of hundred yards) but unfortunately it is smaller than the one at Bellingham and the range is more restricted; for example they do not stock the cheap sparkling water. We occasionally visit the...

Unfortunately we are addicted to Lidl specific brands, such as their Cava, smoked salmon and parmesan :-) Pretty damn good value on Tokai at the moment as well.

Re: Lidl shut

Yesterday my wife Mary asked the 'Chief Engineer' how long the work would take. He said a further two weeks. It cannot be too soon for me, although I guess the trudge to and from Bellingham is good for me!

A bit of a nudge for an old thread, but my wife and I have just had a takeaway from Himalayan Kitchen. Good portion size, excellent flavours, and good value for money. We placed the order using their App. After 50 years working with computers I had reservations about whether it would work, but it di...

When asked a few days ago the staff did not think they were closing. It looked as if it was being offered as a going concern.

What's up at Lidl?

The Sydenham road Lidl has been closed for two days due to 'technical issues', Does anyone know what this is about? I had to drag my shopping trolley to and from the one past Sainsbury's.

I am sorry. The rain was probably my fault, since I had laboriously watered all the window boxes and flower tubs.

Re: Co-operative Food store to rebrand as a Budgens store

I am a Lidl fanatic myself, but my wife shops at the Co-op. She is a registered coeliac (not just fashionably 'gluten intolerant') and the Co-op is reliable for having some gluten-free products. I suspect the change may not be for the better for her.

Re: DIY shop open Easter Sunday???

Musti's Pound Plus store on Sydenham Road undoubtedly have PVA glue, although possibly not in the size you want. I used papiermache (with some PVA and colouring) to fill in floorboard cracks. For more substantial gaps I cut strips from a grey foam pipe insulator and forced them into the cracks. Rega...

Re: vote for the best coffee in Sydenham

<coffee snob mode> Every couple of days I medium roast a batch of green beans. Favourites are Old Brown Java and Guatemalan HueHuetenango. When I want a basin of coffee I grind about 3 oz, put them into my ancient drip filter machine set to 'slow pass through', warm up some milk with sweeteners, and...

Re: Water Leak - Perry Rise - Road Closed

Complete chaos there today, as there are now temporary traffic lights and all approaches are down to one lane for no apparent reason (other than a shortage of temporary lights I presume). Tailbacks stretching as far as the eye can see towards Sydenham and queues to enter Sainsbury's by the garage.....

I think they are cooked by Meena from Fresh & Fruity, the owner's mother! I had some at Christmas and they were so good that I am ashamed to say that I pigged out a bit.

A bit unfair as I did say I had no idea as to how it had been damaged - not much would stand up to a vehicle collision.. Except for trees! My bike group gets an annual lecture from a group of police accident investigators, suitably illustrated with many harrowing pictures. One of the most striking ...

We have two landlines. Both have been registered with TPS for some years. In 2015 we received over 2000 cold calls; 7 or 8 every day! The vast majority are for 'marketing surveys' and appear to originate from India using Internet telephony with spoofed caller ids. We learned very quickly not to answ...

I do not think that things have changed for the worse. What I find discouraging is the sameness of the discussions. Put it down to age-related ennui.

Re: Town Pub

The sadness is that there have in the past been some quite edifying and illuminating discussions in the Pub which would be a credit to Sydenham if anyone were allowed to read them. The recent one between Rod and Michael about the non-proliferation treaty and Israel was a good example. There may be ...

Re: Town Pub

I say that things should be left as they are. If you look at the topics in the Pub the majority of them have absolutely nothing to do with Sydenham, and could equally well take place on any other Internet discussion board, even though those who use it tend to live in Sydenham. It is service provided...
