Re: Why high streets die

Bizarre, especially as CCTV doesn't seem to be any assistance in prosecute the street racing prats who are currently putting everyone's lives at risk. Perhaps Lewisham sees them purely for revenue production?

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

The point is, that even if you loathe the gasholders and want them gone, permitting demolition up front means you lose any negotiating power over the quality of its replacement. Personally, I love them and want them to be imaginatively redeveloped, but whatever side you are on, we all want Bell Gree...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop

I would love an Iceland, especially since it's been launching eco innovations, like a plastic packaging ban. The downside would their frankly ghastly shop front designs. All that shrieking red plastic frontage is a bit much, especially for the old Safeway building, which has quite a sleek, mid-centu...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

The same company, Scottish Power Networks, is also currently trying to demolish the iconic gasholder near the Millennium Dome. They will have to redo the credits for EastEnders! All over the country, gasholders are being removed, and the argument that 'there are loads of them about' will be hard to ...

Re: Hillcrest Estate development

Thank you Tim and Tredown Man, it is always fascinating to hear your perspectives. Firstly, the Hillcrest Estate development has implications for the current residents of the estate. Note that I believe 'long term residents' naturally includes those renting in the estate. The assumption that it is c...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

I restated the site's history of workers empowerment simply in response to the previous post, saying: "To anyone but the chattering classes they represent the tyranny of Victorian privilege" I find it astonishing the number of people throwing around accusations, when they have not read the...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

Had you actually bothered to read up on the gas works, you would know that Bell Green was at the heart of an innovative model of workers having a profit share, and workers representation on the board of directors. This is the context to the Livesey Hall, built to commemorate a liberal, forward-think...

Re: Obstruction of Knighton Park Road

This morning, I realised that the public can register complaints with the Considerate Contractor scheme, if they display a sign saying they are signed up to it. Causing a nuisance to neighbours is absolutely key to them; it was set up to improve the image of contractors and development, and they enf...

Hillcrest Estate development

The decision made by Lewisham's planners to not commission an Environmental Impact Assessment on the proposed Hillcrest Estate development is causing concern. The decision breaches the Mayor's Plan as the site is ancient woodland (part of the Great North Wood), an important wildlife habitat, and the...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop

At every stage of the planning process, applicants are encouraged to pre-check their application before submitting formally. If the yoga company failed to file documents correctly, then it is their fault for not taking advantage of the offer. What we need is a change of law, limiting the tax benefit...

I sent an email to Shaun today, and let's hope that something gets done. I tried ringing the non-emergency police number several times, but they simply never answer.

I am near Home Park on Fairlawn park, and it was dreadful last night. I keep getting woken up by their night shift team in the early hours. Someone is going to get killed before long.

Re: Loud motorbike revving can be heard from Westwood Hill

Not just in your area. Lower Sydenham has been hosting some kind of rally, with stunt driving and high speed races, for some time now. What is going on? Even in broad daylight, cars and bikes are speeding and doing incredibly dangerous manoeuvres. I think this has been getting worse in the last six ...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop

I am not sure the building would be ideal for yoga anyway. Its corner position, on a busy junction with traffic lights, along with the extensive windows and low roof could make it noisy and hot. You couldn't even open a window because if the traffic fumes. I am all for lots of yoga, but think it's n...

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018

This has been going on for years now, and St Philip Neri's immediate neighbours have been through a lot. Demonising works both ways, and the school has never stated their own position on the development, and then claim to be misrepresented because we are not telepathic. The documents are not availab...
