I see that despite all their rebranding, we still persist in calling the cooperative the Co-op :)

Re: Bus strike tomorrow

Not sure what solutions there are. I will travel by train not bus. Not suitable for everyone I know. It certainly wasn't. If you have some sort of bus pass, you could wave your ticket at the guy at the ticket barrier and get let through. If you had Oyster PAYG, you got clobbered for the entire cost...

Re: Sydenham Artisan Market - 2nd Saturday of the month

So, I struggled towards Sydenham in yesterday morning's bad weather. It was only when I was most of the way along Venner Road when it occurred to me to look up, and I realised that there was no sign of any stalls at the Square. It was the second Saturday - so what happened? :(

Re: Southern services to/from London Bridge

Needless to say, if they hadn't cancelled Southern services from Charing Cross a few years ago, some of these problems will have been avoided. I saw this coming so moved out of Sydenham three months ago. My sincere sympathies to all those who are suffering The "Southern services" were onl...

Have sent you a private message - hope you get it.

Sounds as though you need one of those catflaps which only responds to something on your pet's collar :(

Re: New Crystal Palace non-news

Hmm, Bromley, Croydon, ... I must say, having 3 (is it only 3?) boroughs adjoining the park must really help with the "divide and rule" policy. Coordinating getting info out to all the people liable to be affected must really take some doing, given the number of bodies it must be split bet...

Re: Sydenham Artisan Market - 2nd Saturday of the month

Glad to hear it - sounds good. Perhaps this month there will be a board or something at Q'thorpe linking it to Venner, and vice versa? Last month, I had no idea whether there was anything on at Q'thorpe at all and, being pushed for time, didn't bother going down that far.

Re: Overground - first five carriage train arrives!

Yes, there will be more capacity on the Bakerloo line, although not all will necessarily get as far as Hayes (some may terminate at Lewisham, to allow for increased capacity on the central section, and others may be diverted to Bromley town centre). It is possible that Hayes will end up with limite...

Re: Overground - first five carriage train arrives!

The East London section is the first to have its trains lengthened. A further 33 trains on the southern extension and North London line will then be lengthened at a total cost for the entire network including the East London Line of £320m. Makes sense, given that so many of its platforms were alrea...

Re: Noisy out there tonight!

That would have been the midnight walk at St Christopher's Hospice. They posted out leaflets to let everyone know a couple of weeks ago that there may be noise etc. Thanks for that - I didn't realise. Couldn't see why a midnight walk should be making that sort of noise, though. They obviously didn'...

Re: Sydenham Hill/Penge East to lose direct trains to St Pan

Aren't there only 3 trains a day in each direction or something, though? Not exactly a viable service. I used to live near Birkbeck station. We had, I think, three trains up to Victoria via Clapham Junction in the morning peak, and none at all back in the evening (they ran from London Bridge. Work t...

and Venner Road last week visiting. In both cases parking has become a virtual no go area for the residents because of the station parkers. I would dispute that. I only see a few obvious station parkers if I get off the train there of an evening. But it has to be said that the situation has been ma...

Re: Will Sydenham lose its Victoria service?

We use it a lot to get to Clapham Junction for SW (Putney, Wimbledon) also, so hope it will still be available one way or another. So do I. It's a really useful link to have. After all, who wants to do Syd>Surrey Docks>Clapham Junction if they don't have to? But as regards Wimbledon, Penge East>Her...

Noisy out there tonight!

(And I'm not talking Zanzibar, for once). At the Penge end of the forum, we've been having a noise nuisance for much of the evening from a PA system and music somewhere in the direction of Crystal Palace Park, or possibly nearer. I presume it can't be anything in the Park, because a) it's a bit late...

Then it goes underground on dedicated twin tracks without being held for traffic crossing or joining the existing track and being 'held' outside London Bridge or awaiting a platform at Charing Cross. Without seeing the 2030 timetable (and more importantly actual performance) I think you are making ...

Thank you fortunately we have not x changed so we will back out. Backing out? Isn't that a little extreme? Or is it some sort of massive infestation? List of Sydenham shops/businesses?

As yet again I come across a reference to some business in Sydenham of whose existence I wasn't aware, I wondered if there is some sort of list of them somewhere? It's a very long high street, many of the shops don't exactly have a large frontage, and when you're whizzing down the road in the bus yo...

Not for the first time, I wish this forum had a "Like" or "Thumbs-up" button, because there's a lot of sense being talked here. It could make quite a lot of sense to have *something* on a weekly basis, say. I wonder, at the moment, how many people just wander past and go "Oh...

Re: Very bad signal in Sydenham?!

There *are* indeed masts which don't pull their own weight, so to speak. Back when I was living in Anerley, there was one mast which regularly caused problems, and I always used to assume that it was at fault when my signal was lousy. And yes, if one mast drops out all the other ones nearby have to ...
