Re: BAN ESTATE AGENTS BOARDS from the High Street.
Often too they cause real damage to buildings. The people who put up these signs on behalf of agents use six inch nails, hammered in with no care and (if the signs are ever removed) just wrenched out. [snip] Our brick garden wall has been virtually destroyed by a series of agents advertising the ho...

Eagle, do you usually query everyone's identity when they've told you they're not associated with something?Eagle wrote:I assumed the first couple of posts were from the owners but maybe is worth visiting.
It certainly is worth visiting: very nice.

Re: CONVERTING EMPTY SHOPS TO FLATS
I'm afraid it's not only Lewisham: Bromley seems to be doing the same thing. Almost a case of "if it moves, convert it into a house" (well, you know what I mean!). Not just shops, but minor industrial premises and anything else they can think of. Not to mention building existing storeys on...

Are Southern running? They have been sometimes when the ELL hasn't.
Alternatively, get up to the District Line somehow (depending on where you live) and change at Mile End for Stratford. At least there are various options now.

I should think with the advent of Oyster cards there are far fewer paper tickets to pass around. No, you just pass the Oyster around instead. That *is* permitted, provided it's a general Oystercard and not a season, and that not more than one of you is trying to use it at a time. Because things got...

Re: Rebranding Lower Sydenham
And Bromley High Street (upper end) has pretty much become a no-go area at night since it's been pedestrianised. Not necessarily no-go as in "don't walk down there or you'll get attacked", but certainly as in there's really nowhere to go down there, barring the theatre (and library on late...

That Wordpress site isn't working for me, Lee (mind you, it's Wordpress, and I haven't been able to get on any of theirs in months - not that I try that often. If I use Internet Explorer, I just get a blank page, but if I use Firefox I think it does give some indication as to precisely what's wrong).

The nurseries website isn't working yet, but the cottages one is:

It looks as though that little area of Penge is developing its own mini town forum!
I looked in briefly today, and it looks very nice.

Most of them costing rather more - and probably taking longer - than the original route, though, I suspect.rshdunlop wrote:True. As any Londoner knows, there's more than one way to skin a cat, and at least half a dozen ways to get to where you are going.

Re: Closure of London Bridge (upper station) in 2015
But may I point out, for the sake of completeness, that a perfectly acceptable and easy way to get from Sydenham to Charing Cross is to go from Lower Sydenham station: a fact that often seems to get neglected on this website. Yes, and the Hayes line is already quite crowded enough without loads of ...

I want to go to sleep, and that helicopter has been circling for what seems like hours . Think it must be going up and down the railway line or something.

Re: TRAINS THIS WEEKEND - WOOHOO!
Did some research and discovered that walking to Penge East and getting the train to Victoria (then on to the dreaded Underground to work) was quicker than Overground from Sydenham. So in a way I'm grateful for all this weekend engineering work because if it hadn't been for that I wouldn't have dis...

On a slightly different note, has anyone else found a problem with the ink on season tickets fading quite quickly. I've got through 4 replacement season tickets that have simply faded. I'm wondering if it's a new kind of printer they use or else maybe the ticket machines are scraping the ink as the...

Re: TRAINS THIS WEEKEND - WOOHOO!
As far as I can see from the engineering works posters, I don't think there'll be any trains again between London Bridge and West Croydon this Sunday. Add to that nothing between Herne Hill and Victoria on the Penge East line, and some of us are going to be a bit scuppered.

I always thought if the gates were in use an employee of the railway company had to be there , but I guess as usual I was wrong. So did I. After all, health and safety prohibits the gates from being closed when there's nobody to staff them in case it's necessary to evacuate the station. Yet I've se...

Re: Begging in Sydenham Road
I've just had a re-read of the conditions of carriage (that everyone agrees to when they buy a railway ticket) and I can't find anything to suggest that Travelcards are any different to any other kind of ticket (i.e. non transferrable - see condition 6). "It may not be resold or passed on to a...
