Condition of German Church footbridge

Post by Tim Lund »

Recently using this I've noticed that some of the wood is rotting

I'm mainly just posting here for the record, and will be emailing links to it to relevant Lewisham officers, etc., asking if it is on anyone's radar, whose responsibility it is (Network Rail, I would guess), if it is felt to be dangerous, when it might be repaired. But If anyone knows anyway ...

See Pat Trembath's posting here, suggesting this is already on someone's 'to do' 'list.

Thanks for pointing that out, Robin - I'd not been following that thread.

I've had a couple of emails from local councillors to say that Lewisham are well aware of the issue, and that Network Rail is indeed the problem.

Now that the work on the German Church footbridge has been done, what is the general consensus, is it an improvement?

I think the parts of the bridge where the wood has been replaced feel even less secure than before - there is more sense of movement underfoot. I will upload some photos from my phone once I get the necessary app working, but basically, the new wood that was put in does not appear to have been sealed/treated in any way and is now cracking in the hot weather; and the girders that were lifted do not appear to have been put back down properly, perhaps contributing to the problem.

What do others think?
