What a sad tale is Sydenham perceived to be more dangerous than Deptford.

Hopefully these are isolated incidents as many of this Forum keep insisting crime at all time low.

If a few more shops opened up and The Greyhound wasn't derelict there would most likely be a higher footfall at all times of the day and night helping to prevent these strange ongoing incidences that seem to be happening at some of the most unlikely times of the day.

Burglaries, stabbings... At 8pm... At Cobbs Corner? Very strange behaviour indeed. We need open retail premises to act as a deterrant to help prevent this unruly behaviour.

Parker
Whilst I do hope you are correct . I am indeed surprised there was not a lot of people around Cobb's Corner at 8pm.

I have lived in various parts of Sydenham for 14 years. This the first time i have heard of such a spate of criminal activity. I am concerned about the burglaries more than anything and hope that this is not going to make Sydenham an undesirable place to live or socialise.

i dont think Sydenham is worse than alot of places but i don't think its amongst the best, but where is? I have lived here for 10 years, and i have been burgled once, in a spate which affected our street about 6 years ago but nothing as far as i know has happened since then; and mugged once but that was on the train coming into Sydenham. There are often the odd stabbing or mugging or burglary which i hear via the portal but i wouldn't call Sydenham an unsafe area in anyway. I wouldnt however necessarily walk down the road late at night with my headphones in or being aware of any person around me. Regardless of if their are shops around the Greyhound i doubt this would make much difference as they would be probably shut in the evenings unless its a chain store of sorts.

I've lived in Collingtree since '93 and we've had 1 attempted burglary recently and 1 that did happen in '08. The stabbing the other night was youths as I understand it and not a common thing for the area at all.
I've lived in Sydenham since '63 so I've seen crime waves come and go. It was worse in the 70's when I was a teenager, and in the 90's when my son was.

The fact that we're talking about it means it's unusual, which is good.

For a better idea of what's going on we can have a look at the crime map on the Met web site:

I'd also say that crime is pretty low around here.
I think the OPs friend was pretty unlucky.
