Christmas Tree Recycling

Post by admin »

Twelve days of Christmas have gone hotly pursued by those New Year Resolutions and Credit Card Limit from the Sales. But is the old tree still sticking around? If so, this missive from the good people in Catford Towers may be useful ...

Two weeks left to recycle Christmas tree!

Lewisham residents are reminded that they have until Monday 27 January to recycle their Christmas trees.

Trees can be taken to any of the 12 collection points across the borough where they will then be chipped and used as mulch in various parks around Lewisham.

Christmas trees can still be deposited at the following places:

· Hilly Fields - entrance in Hilly Fields Crescent, SE4
· Deptford Park - entrance in Scawen Road, SE8
· Telegraph Hill - Pepys Road/Kitto Road entrance, SE14
· Talbot Place - Blackheath, SE3
· Mountsfield Park - entrance top of George Lane, SE13
· Sydenham Wells Park - entrance Wells Park Road, SE26
· Forster Memorial Park - entrance top of Whitefoot Lane, SE6
· Northbrook Park - Baring Road entrance, SE12
· Mayow Park - entrance in Mayow Road, SE23
· Chinbrook Meadows, Amblecote Road, SE12
· Manor House Gardens, Old Road entrance, SE13
· Beckenham Place Park, Old Bromley Road, BR1

The Council is also keen to remind residents that Christmas wrapping paper and cards can be recycled using their green bins.

And as lots of people have a clear out at this time of year, it is good to know that old clothes, blankets, curtains and any other textiles that might not be suitable for the charity shop can be put in the Council’s textile bins located all over the borough.

For information about recycling in the borough, go to www.lewisham.gov.uk/recycling

One of my pals got an eco christmas tree of sorts this year and was pretty happy with it and considered the price not too far off what you'd pay for one off a highstreet/garden centre. You basically get a live, locally sourced (or as local as possible!) christmas tree for X days over the period then arrange for them to pick it up and the replant it/look after it for you for next year.
Not sure what compamy it was but pretty similar idea/design to this Canadian one I found online - http://www.evergrowchristmastrees.ca/

Just some food for thought for the future!

That's rather more generous than Bromley's blink-and-you-missed-it system, but I'll put details here anyway for those living in Bromley Borough: http://www.bromley.gov.uk/info/531/recy ... ling_sites
So all those people who left their trees out on the street hoping the bin men would take them: forget it!
