According to this link he's on a base salary of £78,835 plus perks.

I didn't vote for us to have a mayor and I'm miffed that there has never been an option to end having one.
Plenty of other people stand against him but with so many, the votes get diluted so he's still there. This is another problem as far as I'm concerned if we continue to have one, as power goes to peoples head. So I think it should be 2 terms and you're out if we're stuck with a mayor.

Tadpole
There is no chance of changing Mayor until the Party Apparatchik's at The Town Hall authorise a change.
You must remember Lewisham has been a One Party State for decades. The Party decides. All power to the Party

If you're beyond 18 and don't vote then you're an idiot.

Well said Paul.

Insulting people is not exactly the language to win them over. It's why on the 'Voting for Housing' thread I used the languagepaultreacy wrote:If you're beyond 18 and don't vote then you're an idiot.
even when we know it's not going to make a difference, voting is a good habit to get into - a bit like brushing your teeth.

No it isn't.Eagle wrote:In a democracy it is your bound and duty to exercise your franchise.
Quite - Surely declining to vote is every bit as legitimate as a political statement as voting? Or indeed, as in most cases, a reflections of complete and utter apathy? I'm sure the self righteous bleating of people like Eagle and Paul will really help get that turnout up...Tim Lund wrote:Insulting people is not exactly the language to win them over.

The UKIP candidate will be Peter Lello, and can be followed on Twitter on @PeterLello
Re: #Lewisham2014
Sydenham is almost a UKIP free zone. Fifteen people are running to be the three councillors for our ward. Its the three for Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem & Green. Plus one each for Trade Unionist & Socialist Coalition, Lewisham Before Profit and UKIP. Full list here: https://www.lewisham.gov.uk/mayorandcou ... PN2014.pdf

Re: #Lewisham2014
The LPBP Mayoral candidate was handing out leaflets at Sydenham Station this morning. Normally I'd not consider voting for a "no hoper" party like that but a central plank of their manifesto is to remove the Mayor position. I agree with that as I consider the Mayor to be a waste of resources and a way of essentially removing the correct council process. So maybe, just maybe, he'll get my vote!
Re: #Lewisham2014
I agree the position of Mayor a complete waste of money and just jobs for the boys in the one party state.
Not sure I like the other postions of the outfit you mention.

No I'm not a fan. I'd not vote for them in the council elections.Eagle wrote:Not sure I like the other postions of the outfit you mention.

Mistaken this for #Pyongyang2014?Eagle wrote:... just jobs for the boys in the one party state.
This is a seven party mayoral election see post, link and discussion above. In this country the party may choose the candidate but the electorate is free choose whatever candidate or the party is on the ballot paper. Unless you are suggesting someone is stuffing ballot boxes. In which case you should be posting to the returning officer - not here.
Please keep on a topic which would not be necessary in a one party state.

Re: #Lewisham2014
I was not trying to suggest one party state in actuality , however because decades since Labour did not have power , we do have it in theory.

Re: #Lewisham2014
Hello all,
I'd recommend considering voting for local candidates not representing central government parties. They are free to really serve the local people instead of obeying central commands.
There is not much choice, but you could consider People before Profit for one of your votes. http://peoplebeforeprofit.org.uk/ (By the way I am not a representative for them.)
I am concerned about extravagantly high house prices due to the increasing overpopulation of our city. I'll leave you to guess who I'm voting for.
Best Wishes,
Squashed Commuter
