I guess that's the point - and it's meant to be optimistic, that in spite of the obvious rubbish, our rivers are now clean, and such beautiful birds can live here. Anyway, here's another of his photos

Met him down by the river while I was on the hunt. Nice chap.

Love the photo with the rubbish. Photographer's dream really, as it shows how the birds are thriving in an urban environment and provides great contrast.

I could take one down the river a bit in a tree and tbh, it would look just like any other picture of a kingfisher (except more blurry and distant I'd imagine ) and give no real impression of the environment it is living in.

I was absolutely stunned to discover there were Kingfishers around the area. Quite like the fact that it's not broadcast everywhere too though.

I am really surprised - and delighted to see these .
I fish sometimes and the highlight is more often than not a 3 second sighting of that electric blue in a straight line dead level with the water .
You don't that colour hen you've seen it .
A very good evening

I used to take my children to school to Athelney via the path at the back of Sainsburys and it was a joy to see a couple of kingsfishers first thing in the morning.

The last few nights our local tawny owls have been very vocal.
