Doubt Cinema would have made it here regardless but Crystal Palace have just announced a deal with Everyman for a 4 screen cinema on Church Street! Wooohooooo! 8 long years of campaigning I read. Massive congrats to them and great to have a cinema nearby :)

Great for Crystal Palace town to see Everyman cinema has decided to invest there. I am a little suprised with their decision with east dulwich picture house so near. Also of course it's disappointing for Sydenham as a town, for this would have been a major attractor, but as a resident it will be good that it is so near.

On Nandos news they have submitted plans for their shopfront and signage. They inform me that they are still in the process of getting planning conditions discharged and they need the landlord to complete their works. However good to see that it is moving forwards.

Let’s hope that it’s not as glacial as the rest of the “movement” in Sydenham.

The plans look good, having the wooden signage will look great.

We seem to take "glacial" speed as inevitable for Sydenham (unnecessarily?), but looking beyond that, it strikes me as highly encouraging that a company is determined to overcome the myriad hurdles, and is sufficiently committed that there's a fair chance it will make darn sure it is successful once finally operational. Hopefully everyone will support it and not knock it the day it opens.

Gah - just had my first Nando’s, so Sydenham won’t now be my first one. Perhaps my first dine in then?

My lad is very excited. He can go there with his mates and I can go to the Greyhound. If they ever open...lol

Any news?

The external makeover for Nandos looks really, really good and it's nice that they are going for something that isn't the usual bog standard big brand, generic signage and window displays.

Cobs Corner is going to look amazing with The Greyhound and Nandos. What an entrance to Sydenham!

Plans for the frontage look really good - thanks for flagging.

Does anyone know if they plan to tidy up the rest of the building - clear up the graffiti etc? It would be nice to see the rest of the building brought into use too.

I've been wondering this too. Nice to get a flag on the pole too, hating seeing empty flag poles.

I met with the person who lived in the top flat who has access to the roof regarding putting a flag on there (the Green Dragon) years ago, but I understand that he sadly passed away. I believe the flag belongs to the top flat, so if anyone wants to put a flag on there, I suggest they get in contact with them or the Freeholder. It would be nice and a nice finishing touch.

Yes, a great bloke and some folks may remember him as an unforgettable Bottom in Jonathan's production of A Midsummer Nights Dream in the Dolphin Gardens. Memorial here: https://karledrik.brainsys.com [check out the Karl.Live videos pre-dating the Poodle Club by a decade].
