Council By-election

Post by Guest »

This was received from our local Liberal Democrats...
Before you ask - Sydenham Town is party politically independent.

Sydenham.org.uk readers who don't already know also may be interested
to know the result of the Forest Hill ward by-election last Thursday
(despite the name, the ward includes the 3234 voters in Upper Sydenham
who live north of Wells Park Road and Sydenham Park, in addition to all
of SE23 west of the railway line).

Philip Peake (Lib Dem) ... 1011 (elected)
Erica Ballmann (Labour) ... 789
Ray Squires (Conservative) ... 522

This has been the only by-election in the Lewisham West area since the
May 2002 elections and was caused by the sad death of popular Labour
councillor, Peter Dawson.

Elsewhere in the borough, though, councillors appear to be have going
for a London record in numbers of by-elections caused by resignations.
(8 by-elections have been held of which 5 have been won by Lib Dems, 2
by Labour and 1 by the Socialists).
