GTR and Southeastern timetable draft proposal

Post by Likelife »

Sorry for very long post.

The new proposal for the Southern, Thameslink etc timetable as been released, for Mon-Fri only.

Quick points for Sydenham:

Proposal for Caterham services being diverted to West Croydon all day has been scrapped. Instead they are planned to go Coulsdon Town (so still direct trains to East & South Croydon, Purley Oaks and Purley).

Six trains per hour between Sydenham and London Bridge during the 08:00 hour (2 each from Norwood Jun, Crystal Palace and London Victoria). However, no direct service from East Croydon until 09:27. (I used 06:31 from East Croydon the other day).

Evening Peak services between London Bridge and West Croydon now extended to Sutton.

The very busy train which arrives at Sydenham at 00:54 has been scrapped. The last service will now arrive at 00:27.

The first service to London Bridge is at 05:56

No direct service from East Croydon to Sydenham between 16:57 and 1957, an hour longer than current. Trains will start at Norwood Jun instead. (Why not Sutton?)

--- Thameslink ---

No Thameslink for Sydenham at all, a timetabling migraine to achieve apparently

Sydenham Hill, Penge East Thameslink services kind of scrapped (it was always intended to be temp service, see Southeastern section).

There will be 18 trains every hour, off peak, between St Pancras and Blackfriars, 12 of which through London Bridge.

Overnight services will not call at London Bridge.

Norwood Junction will have 2 Thameslink services per hour to Gatwick & Bedford

4tph confirmed for Crofton Park, Caford, Bellingham etc. However, not evenly spaced (10 min wait, then 20 min wait).

---

So still a reduction in East Croydon services but a livable one. The earlier last service I just find baffling. If anything, overnight Thameslink services should be on the cards as it is on the north side of the river. Starting the evening peak services at Sutton could of helped the high usage of LO from West Croydon at this time. Although its not perfect, its better than previously proposed before for us.

Edit: I didn't realise Southeastern (GTR sister company) has also released their proposals too. They aren't as detailed, as they don't have specific timings.

Weekdays:

Sydenham Hill, Penge East, Kent House etc will continue 4tph from London Victoria. However, only half hourly will go as far as Orpington. The other two trains will terminate at Bromley South.

Southeastern will being running services from London Blackfriars to Beckenham Junction during peaks (stopping at Sydenham Hill and Penge East in peak direction only)

A few services from Kent will additionally call at Kent House during the AM peaks.

Weekends:
Saturdays will be same as off peak Mon to Fri.

For Sundays however, there are no mention of Penge East services. Assuming an accidental miss. Unfortunately still no improvement on the half hourly Hayes Line service at Lower Sydenham.

It seems the place in South East London which benefits the most in December 2018 is Abbey Wood. They gain both Crossrail and Thameslink
