Sainsbury's have, without notice or consultation, ripped up their agreement to supply Fairtade Tea. Its already gone from the shops. Now they have 'fairly traded tea' which isn't - well unless you believe Sainsbury are going to be as fair and generous as the Fairtrade mark requires. Which the fair trade suppliers dispute.
Why are Sainsury's doing this? Because they want to control the supply chain. The other Fairtrade products will follow. Tesco says it intends to follow. It could bring the whole Faitrade movement crashing down.
We spent years promoting (and selling) Fairtrade products in and around Sydenham. It was great when the supermarkets decided it was good for them to take the trade and expand the market. But now they are reverting to exploiting their market position to screw suppliers.
Please don't buy Sainsbury's tea. Please politely tell their staff why not. Please post here where we can get Fairtrade Tea in Sydenham (The good old Co-op was always the convenient alternative).
Thank you. More info here: https://www.theguardian.com/global-deve ... rs-nairobi

Right on, Stuart.
Well Being stocks a wide range of Fairtrade tea...

You can buy Fair Trade tea in Sainsbury's. It's just that their own brand is changing.
The best thing would be to buy the Fair Trade alternative in Sainsburys rather than their own brand. That would impact their sales figures and they would change back. They check these things very closely. The buyer would be forced to switch back then.
Fairtrade does make a difference.
I'd also plug one of our clients that we designed the branding and packaging for right here in Sydenham. They are the only Fairtrade nut brand in the uk (they supply may of the supermarkets with their own brand nuts too, including Sainsbury's). It's 44% owned by the farmers and run by really lovely, passionate people. It's called 'Liberation' and you find it in Waitrose and other independent stores and Oxfam.
