Sticky: NEW! Events calendar
A new addition to the forum is the Events calendar. Just post a LOCAL event on this "sticky" thread and if possible a link to the relevant website. We can then add your event to the Events page (which is between Town Hall and News, above). Some of you may remember I started a Christmas events page on Town Hall, which was probably useful, but the team feel this new page could be really helpful to Sydenham, as what events that are on seem to be confined to individual web pages - as with the Poodle Club, for instance, but you have to know to look there to find out about their shows. As this takes off, it should be a one-stop-shop for events in Sydenham.

Just like to add the Poodle Club are having a busy weekend. Booked out tonight but tomorrow and Sunday are on. As for those seeking a way of celebrating Valentines Day next Thursday:

This, and more, are listed on the Events Calendar or go direct to: https://www.poodleclub.co.uk/shows.
Or there are more gentler activities outside if the weather stays good.

Thank you JRW. Added to events calendar.
It would be helpful if whoever is organising this to identify themselves and give more notice if they expect a community response. It's too late for me which is a disappointment.

Re: Sticky: NEW! Events calendar
I couldn't agree more. The meeting was organised by Lewisham, who failed to notify more than a handful of very recent commenters, at extremely short notice. The date was fixed a week before, but the developers declined to post notices provided by Lewisham for their neighbours, although it was publicised extensively within the school community. Lewisham and our councillors also refused to publicise it, despite repeated requests.
Sydsoc finally received clear information about the meeting's format on Thursday 4, when the developers finally confirmed their intentions with planning. Sydsoc then printed posters and did its best to publicise it over the weekend. Unfortunately, a concerted effort was made to tear down a large number of posters immediately around the library, school and church, which
must have affected the number of people aware of the meeting.
Given zero budget and knackered volunteers, we did our best; all complaints to be addressed to Lewisham and developers. Better still, come along to tonight's Mayor and Cabinet meeting at 6.30, when the Council's response to the Sydenham Assembly motion is considered. Should be interesting.

Not surprising. A very hostile and unwelcome atmosphere being created by this campaign.

Re: Sticky: NEW! Events calendar
Sorry for the old log in - I am no longer a councillor but was registered on here as such. I will try to join as an individual or as Chair of Penge Forum. However, residents of Penge and Sydenham share an interest in the future of Crystal Palace Park so members here might be interested in a Penge Forum meeting next Thursday, 26th September:
The next Open Meeting of Penge Forum will ask: What is happening with Crystal Palace Park?
It is several years now since Bromley Council agreed an outline plan for improving Crystal Palace Park. A new Trust Board has been formed to run the park, yet we have seen little in the way of improvement and many residents feel the park is being neglected. When will we our local, historic, open space receive the attention it deserves? What do you consider should be the priorities?
You will be able to hear from and discuss these issues with representatives from the Crystal Palace Park Trust and The Friends of Crystal Palace Park. The Friends of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs will talk about a project to improve access to Dinosaur island.
There will also be updates from local councillors and organisation.
The meeting is free and open to all. It is on Thursday 26th September at Anerley Town Hall, Anerley Road. Doors will open at 7.00 p.m. for free refreshments and the meeting will start at 7.30 p.m.

This sounds to me like something which deserves its own thread, too.

Re: Sticky: NEW! Events calendar
Borough wide community event.
To mark the lifting of our lockdown and to perhaps celebrate the lives, as we deem appropriate, of those who succumbed.
I think it reasonable that we wait the full fourteen weeks specified to protect those who need shielding.
So end-of-June is a target time.
But even if our HMG decrees that we need 26 weeks or 52 weeks for that matter to protect our community and get through this, we should collectively mark this forthcoming event at the end.
We cannot do so many things now so we should do them then.
We can look forward - we will get through this.
