Reports this morning that HMG is giving consideration to cutting the maximum number of people who can lawfully gather indoors in England.
The sharp upturn in reported numbers of COVID-19 infections includes 2,948 reported on Monday which is the highest number since 22 May and is causing grave concern and review is required.
This is a pan-country upturn not only in the UK where large geographic tracts of Scotland and parts of England and Wales have gone back into localised lock-down, but is happening in many European countries too.
NewsShopper in a report wrote:Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said on Monday that the public had "relaxed too much" over the summer and described the rising number of cases were of "great concern".
It will be interesting to see if the rate of hospital admissions, and ultimately the death rate, shows a similar rise after a week or two. These are the major problem with Covid19, not young people getting mildly ill. Opening up society, and increasing testing, was always going to result in more cases being reported.
Unlike other European capitals,the numbers for London especially south London remain low which is positive news
We have to keep this in perspective - the number of infections per 100,000 population is the number to watch
Bolton has over 100 cases per 100,000 population whilst much of south London is below 20 with Lewisham and Bromley below 10 cases per 100,000 population
Just checked the latest figures at Gov. Uk daily time series by local authority (my previous email was figures as of 1st September)
Lewisham now 15, Bromley 14 cases per 100,000 population. Early April Bromley had 80 cases per 100,000 and Lewisham 94
