Job Vacancy: Green Champion

Location: Lewisham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Ealing and Brent
Salary: £8 per hour
Fixed term contract: 7 months
Hours: Part time, 15 hours per week
Closing Date: 12pm, 30th August 2011

Groundwork London is a social and environmental regeneration charity.

We are seeking to recruit personable Green Champions to help deliver our trade marked Green Doctor TM, home energy advice service in:

· Perry Vale, Lewisham;

· Southall Broadway and Southall Green, Ealing;

· Welsh Harp, Brent;

· Kenton East, Harrow; and

· Charville, Hillingdon.

You will encourage residents to participate in this scheme and benefit from allowing a Green Doctor to visit their home to fit energy saving devices and provide advice on reducing carbon emissions and energy costs.

An excellent communicator, you will undertake door-to-door surveys and support community events and activities to publicise the scheme. Using your excellent organisational skills, you will undertake administrative duties including operating an appointment database.

We would like to hear from you can demonstrate an interest in energy efficiency or sustainability and have the confidence to communicate with the public to generate interest in our free Green Doctor TM service.

Lewisham Homes are looking to appoint a number of trade apprentices (painting/carpentry/plumbing) to work with our contractors.

Applicants must be:
· Aged from 18 - 24
· Not a graduate
· Live in the borough of Lewisham

No previous experience necessary.

The opportunities are based in the south of the borough and open to all LBL residents and include:

· Salary of £14 350
· Training at Lewisham College

Interviews are this Friday (26th August) in Essex - Lewisham Homes will pay travel expenses.

I agree 100%.

Are they allowed to discriminate against people living outside the borough. I hope they are but somehow doubt it.
Could they also restrict to British nationals or at least people who have been in British education since age 11.
Somehow we have to get some of the native youths in employment.

An excellent communicator ... using your excellent organisational skills
If someone really is excellent in such ways, why should they be paid less than the London living wage?

Also - what should people do if there aren't enough jobs on offer?

They should take the job if they do not have one to gain experience.
Eight pounds an hour is more than no pounds an hour.

This is only a few months contract an ideal work experience.
