Bell ringing on Friday

Post by sydeman »

There is a mass bell ringing proposed around the country at 8.12am this Friday. Does anyone know if anyone or if any churches are taking part in Sydenham?

why is it planned?

If it is olympics related wouldn't it be more appropriately symbolict to do it at 12 minutes past 8 in the evening? i.e. 2012 hours?

Its something to do with the start of the Olympics first day, and an Art themed event.

Given the the Opening Ceremonies start at 20:12, it's probably more sensible to do it in the morning instead.

I shall be ringing my bike and door bells with gusto, at 8:12 am tomorrow (but only if I'm out of bed by then)

I went outside my front door at 8.12 am, to be met by total silence. Rang my little cowbell for a few seconds - the workmen on the building site opposite looked at me as if I was mad. 'It's for the Olympics!', I called, trying to inject a festive and optimistic note into my voice. They grinned in an embarrassed way. Ah well, done my bit. Bah humbug.

I think I heard ST Barts church bells at 8.12 but building site nearby with lots of noise.
Thought 8.12 is not 20.12 so to me its a bit silly to do it then, but good for the people who didnt mind that.
