Tonight, 28th August, our house stank of tar from some sort of tarmac / resurfacing machine. What they are doing I do not know. There were no signs of any road works on my way home from work this evening.
It means that we have had to close our windows for the time being and hopefully not have to wash the curtains, again!
Can anyone else smell it?

As far as I know, only hot Tarmac being laid or newly laid smells (cold "patching" Tarmac doesn't) although if none such was going on near you, mysterious. However, a heavy vehicle would be parked near here a little way off Syd Road each night that would rev up and sit for an hour or so doing "something" (like a Readymix concrete lorry has to keep revolving once loaded before it disgorges), so maybe it's something like that. Can't say I noticed that smelling as I'd walk past.
Anyway, I'm willing to ask if you like.
