This must be from the top of forest hill...and It can only be looking towards catford hithere green, or towards nunhead...
whats the road in the foregrround?
honor oak rd?

what is the massive embankment in the middle at the back...way before railway embankments...i think
this is quite a dillemma...
any ideas?

Perhaps Peckham Rye in the foreground with, possibly, Dog Kennel hill in the distance?

Looks like the long road might be Honor Oak Road - and the view is from the top of Derby Hill or somewhere thereabouts.

that does make sense...then thats London rd hidden away in the mid foreground

(or maybe a little further up...from eliot bank, towards hornimans, and wood vale...that would explain the apparent downhill view..

but what is that embankment?

That steep embankment could be at Nunhead I guess. If you take the long road as Honor Oak Road it all seems to fit.

There's quite a steep incline/ hill on the site of Nunhead Cemetery.

I believe Nunhead Cemetery was opened in 1840. So the embankment you point out could be the site of the cemetery before it was developed as a burial ground.

I ewas wondering if it was Nunhead...
I know there was a lot of landscaping of the hill and surrounds..
I think this must be looking down towards wood vale and forest hill rd...
I wonder if they built the reservoir that early...that would explain the earthworks...
