Easter West End Workshop - 14-17 April

Post by TakeFlightAcademy »

Dear all

Booking is open for our exciting WEST END WORKSHOP taking place this Easter, Tuesday 14-Friday 17 April! Don’t miss out on our EARLY BIRD RATES ending on Friday 13 March.

We are bringing together some fantastic industry professionals, including a professional MUSICAL DIRECTOR to work on a four day workshop of a musical, based in professional studios at Sydenham School, Dartmouth Road, SE26 4RD.

Split into two age groups, each group will focus on material from our chosen shows as they work towards a fabulous LIVE SHOWCASE, performed to an invited audience of family and friends, on the final day. The Showcase is professionally filmed and all students will receive a copy (via Vimeo link) of their final performance!

FOR AGES 7-10/11 (up to school year 6):

PETER PAN: A MUSICAL ADVENTURE by George Stiles & Anthony Drewe

Based on J.M. Barrie’s beloved tale about the boy who wouldn’t grow up and his band of Lost Boys, this is a heart-warming musical with a captivating score by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe — the award-winning song writing duo behind Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s smash hit Mary Poppins. Stiles and Drewe’s Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure is a wonderful score that takes us on the adventure to Neverland with pathos and joy, giving us some great melodies and empathic styles that are not only thrilling to sing but also hold the truth of the story.

We promise a fun filled workshop as the children sail away on a high-flying journey with Peter, Wendy, John, Michael & the Lost Boys as they work on sections of the script, songs and dance routines from this magical show!

FOR AGES 11/12-18 (for school years 7+):

COME FROM AWAY - The Multi Award winning Broadway and West End Show (currently running in London’s West End)

Come From Away is set in the week following the September 11th attacks and tells the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander in the province of Newfoundland, Canada. It opened on Broadway in March 2017, and became a critical and box office success, routinely playing to standing-room-only audiences even during previews. It was nominated for seven Tony awards including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Featured Actress in a Musical. The show then moved across the pong and opened in London’s West End in February 2019 - winning Best New Musical at The Olivier Awards!

We invite all workshop attendees along to this fantastic four day workshop to learn more about the history of the production, the real events that inspired the production and work on material from the actual show!

The guest industry professionals coming in to work on the material from Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure and Come From Away are as follows:

LEANNE HARWOOD - Workshop Leader

Leanne is our usual Workshop Leader and we are thrilled she will be joining us once again. As well as being a fantastic teacher, she has also had years of experience in the profession and has performed in many West End Shows and UK Tours including; MAMMA MIA, FOOTLOOSE, GREASE, THE WEDDING SINGER & LA CAGE AUX FOLLES!

SHERIDAN LLOYD - Musical Director

Sheridan is an accomplished Musical Director having worked on shows such CATS, BUDDY HOLLY, OKLAHOMA and as WEST END ASSISTANT MD on DREAMBOATS & PETTICOATS. He also has lots of experience with working with children / young performers in choirs and ensemble groups.

CLAIRE LEARIE - Workshop Assistant

Claire is our current "Musical Theatre" After School Class Leader. She trained at the famous Doreen Bird College and made her professional debut in the Madness Musical OUR HOUSE!

On the final day of the workshop we are delighted to confirm that the students will be visited by current "COME FROM AWAY" WEST END CAST MEMBER:

JENNIFER TIERNEY

Jennifer has just renewed her contract in COME FROM AWAY having opened with the original London West End Cast last February. She will be coming in to visit the students on their final day, to offer her expertise on the show and also hold a Q&A. If we’re lucky enough, she may even perform one of the songs from the show in our SHOWCASE!
