Ali B makes a brief return to STF

Post by ALIB »

So, I googled STF on the 4th December and found,....

Admin mentioned having a drink with me at the Bricklayers Arms (was that a 'date' ? :D )
When I left Sydenham some 2 and a half years ago, major improvements had just been completed to the Brickies, and it was a great pub.

Then I saw Bensonby (I thought he'd moved to Kent ?) commenting on the speed restrictions in the area. From my own experience 'out in the sticks' the police don't have the resources to catch drivers speeding. Unfortunately, it seems you have to wait for accidents to happen before anything is done.

Savvy was back on the STF boards. Get her involved in a STF social, she is a real live-wire.

Am highly delighted that progress is in hand on the Greyhound. It's a shame it's taken so long, but without many activists input (often in their own time), it may well have disappeared for good. Well done to everyone

And Becca from Alhambra joined STF. The most fantastic gem of a shop on Kirkdale where it is possible to get most of your Christmas shopping in one hit. You may also get a free glass of mulled wine / sangria if you call on the right day / evening.

And the 5-a-side footie team is still going, and had a good Christmas bash at the Dolphin and Gurkhas. Increased demand for playing places means they are going from strength to strength. When I left they were a fine bunch of athletic, intellectual professionals, and well worth socialising with. Gawd knows what they are now :D

As for STF itself, the (viewing/posting) numbers do not do itself justice. Word spreads around Sydenham like wildfire (or an electricity substation fire) and information soon spreads to those not on 'the net'.
I wish we had such a facility for the village I now live in, but we have to rely on posters on noticeboards and village gossip for information.

Anyway, that's my passing input. May I just take time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a suitably inebriated New Year.

My memory tells me that you moved to a Scotland manse with much restoration planned? CBA to do a search but if so, how's it going? If that is you, no reason you can't still chat in the Pub here as I'd love to know how it's all going. If that isn't you, then hey ho and Merry Christmas :)
