Bell Green Neighbourhood Forum

Post by JRW »

The next meeting of the BGNF will be on Saturday 27th November, 11am - 1pm at the Livesey. This will be our regular time and venue for meetings, which will be held on the last Saturday of every month.

In the New Year, meetings will recommence on 29th January 2022, followed by:

26th Feb
26th March
30th April
28th May
25th June
30th July
27 August

Please make lists of pedestrian issues you experience in the forum area, with particular focus on accessing the retail park, schools, and community services. In addition, Cllr Andre Bourne has just announced that Lewisham officers’ review of options for replacing/ reopening the Bridge will take a year to report. I have therefore invited him to join the meeting for a two-way discussion on the loss of local sports provision, both at the Bridge, and at the Livesey. I will keep members informed as to his response.

Please bring children to the meeting if you have difficulties with finding childcare. If they bring along paper and coloured pencils, they can draw us their ideas of what they’d like to see at Bell Green.

If you wish to actively participate in the meeting, and live in work in the forum area, please sign up for membership on arrival, if you haven’t already. Non members are welcome to audit forum meetings, but can’t speak (unless by invitation), or cast votes.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Julia Webb,
Secretary of BGNF committee

Julia,

What plans do you have for the gyratory and Southend Lane to encourage cycling to the retail park as opposed to the cemetery?

Hi Stuart,
Personally, my ideas are many and various, one of which has already been submitted to Pat Codd as a public question for this month's full council meeting.

As for the forum, that is a matter for discussion and democratic vote by the Forum members. My ideas would have to be submitted just like everyone else's.

We are starting with the needs of pedestrians, who have had absolutely no consideration at all in the design of the area. Pedestrian safety will enhance cycle safety, in redesigning crossings.

Reminder that tomorrow, Saturday 27th November at the Livesey Memorial Hall
11am to 1pm, meeting of the BGNF.

Special guest Cllr Andre Bourne, Lewisham cabinet member for Culture, whose remit covers sport and leisure.

Guided tour of the Livesey’s sports grounds, currently trashed courtesy of Kier. Please be aware that the ground is rough and uneven, so please wear suitable footwear. Hope to see lots of Forum area residents there. Please note that people from outside the forum area, (and those who don’t want to sign up for the forum) can sit in on the meeting, but not vote or actively participate in questions.

It is to be wondered how the second category of potential contributors are to be identified and denied participation. Will members and non-members help out by wearing different hats?

At the last meeting valid questions were posed from the floor about the river being culverted and this providing protection from the possibility of pollution from adjacent sites - contrary to a proposal made at the meeting that the river be opened up. Debate on the point was not allowed to develop and contributions from other attendees were not sought.

I regret not being able to attend the meeting on the 27th November.

However there is another nascent body - Bell Green Action Group. Different geography and open to ALL residents and business in the Bellingham Ward and adjacent environs.

For clarity it is not the the proposed forum led by Julia Webb and Cllr Liam Curran.

For balance, the website does include draft proposals placed in the public domain by Julia.

It also has a much longer list of issues and ideas and the rationales behind them, originally prepared in April 2021, for a response to Lewisham's Draft Local Plan.

This will enable people to make direct comparison of the potential for all developments within the Ward and ALL voices will be heard without criticism. Please make contact and have your ideas added to the list.

A second version of the web-site is being prepared with friendlier graphics and with improved navigation.

Watch this forum for the re-launch announcement.
