London City Airport Expansion: Fund-raiser for Planning Inquiry

Post by JGD »

London City Airport's planning application for expansion of its operations was rejected by LB Newham.

Newham rejected it on the grounds of noise and the reduction of the long-established weekend respite by extending flying hours to include all day Saturdays.

Expanded flight proposals would bring an increase in avoidable and unnecessary noise from low-level flights over our heads.

London City Airport has appealed and a Public Enquiry will decide whether London City will be permitted to expand operating hours to fly all day Saturdays.

Along with FHSoc and Hacan East we have engaged in resisting this expansion plan and continue to prepare material for our participation as a Rule 6 Party at the Inquiry. This is a way for Londoners under their low flight paths in SE London to try and stop it.

We need your assistance and are fund-raising to enable us to maximise the use of a leading barrister with our case.

An update on fundraising today from Tim Walker, FHSoc Executive committee member.

‘Thank you to everyone for so much support in such a short time.

It is giving us the confidence that we can keep going with our plans at pace. We have worked intensely on our arguments with our expert legal counsel and today we met our first major deadline and submitted a summary Statement of Case to the Inquiry.

To reach our initial public crowdfunder target of £5,000 will be amazing and get us a long way towards what we will need by December and today we are setting ourselves a new stretch target of £7,500 for our public crowdfunder.

We are also discussing several major private gifts of £500 or more, which will help us get even further towards our overall costs which will be in excess of £10,000.

So overall, very exciting progress. Every donation, large and small, towards our legal and expert witness costs helps us to spend more of our time putting our evidence case together and less time working on fundraising plans.“
