Crystal Palace Park introduces car park charges

Post by stuart »

Just posted this on Mastodon:

From 6 June 2024, parking charges will be in place in all of Crystal Palace Park’s public car parks. £2 for one hour. Who is going to pay that?

During the Festivals cars cause chaos in the surrounding streets. At least that was only for a few days. Now it may be every day.

No consultation from an unaccountable and unknown bunch of trustees supposedly improving the park for the community. Worse than Bromley?

Their announcement: https://www.crystalpalaceparktrust.org/ ... ar-parking

They could hardly be worse than Bromley - the Trust seems a very much better way to manage and protect the park than leaving it to Bromley who have let it run down over so many years.

Any particular reason why CPP should not charge for parking in the same way that other equivalent parks do? Eg Greenwich, Beckenham Place Park.
It seems a very good way to produce an income stream that will help pay for the running of the park, encourages people to walk, cycle and use public transport and provides free parking for blue badge holders too.

Half an hour grace drop off and pickup time period.

CP Park was becoming more and more an outlier in not charging for parking - even Sydenham's own Girton Road Car Park finally succumbed to charges recently (last car park in Lewisham without charges I understand).

I might not like it but it seems a very 21st Century practice.
