Amonia Smell on Sydenham Station

Post by Willy »

I just got the train from Sydenham (the 10:50 to LB) and there was an extremely strong smell of amonia on both platforms, anyone know where it's coming from? It wasn't helping my hangover at all....

Perhaps the staff have been using ammonia for cleaning? Otherwise, it might be stale wee wee which can have a similar smell. Could perhaps ask the staff if they have any ideas and if they have a regular programme for hosing down/disinfecting suspect places.

i think it might have been something to do with the chemical crystals which had been scattered along the platform this morning. it was a very strong smell. similar stuff is used to prevent freezing of runways at airports. it is usually calcium chloride and ammonia, which makes it safer underfoot, during freezing conditions.
