Are there any snooker clubs in the local area?
There are signs and boarded up windows near the station, but I'm sure I've also seen people walking around with cues..

There used to be a snooker club in Forest Hill near the station but I'm not sure about Sydenham
However, the newly refurbished "Bird In Hand" on Dartmouth Road has just had a new snooker/pool table added about a month ago if that helps.
Not sure if this is the reason why you've seen people walking around with cues or not, but one of the best cue makers is also based in FH used by the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan etc
