STARBUCKS OPENING January 2023

Post by SIMONTREWIN »

They are currently hiring 10+ people to staff the new Sydenham Starbucks which will be in the old bank on the corner of Venner Road and Sydenham Road. Next door to the barbershop.
I love Cobb's Corner for my morning coffee and occasionally go down to On The Hoof (great omelettes too!) and Blackbird if I need to shop down at the bottom of the road.
I won't use Starbucks myself because it isn't the kind of atmosphere I want first thing in the morning but I am sure it will be a great success. It is good to see high street brands embracing Sydenham and I am all for it - as long as their presence doesn't damage the shop local economy too.

Penge High Street has a Costa as well as independent local cafes so fingers crossed Sydenham too will have enough customers to support both.

By "old bank" you mean what until recently was Lloyds?

Whilst I love a good coffee (Hello Mr Hazlenut Flat White, My light, My Life, My only reason for living) there are plenty of places already so not sure why Starbucks chose Sydenham to be honest.

Part of me thinks it’s good to see investment in Sydenham but part of me thinks why does Sydenham need another coffee shop when we have plenty of independents.

Starbucks coffee is also not good.

I should have preferred the bank. At least they could have left a working ATM... but no. Beckenham Lloyds is, effectively, just a series of ATMs.

Starbucks half a cup Starbucks eh? (In my experience this company serves half a cup of coffee or less and the rest is just froth)

The coffee shops that make decent coffee and provide good customer service have nothing to fear…

the signs have gone up, the building has been painted and the interior is beginning to look a lot like a Starbucks.

Ah finally, a proper coffee shop. To be honest the existing shops have had years to up their game but have failed to do so. I am no advocate of Starbucks but at least it should bring a wave of regeneration to Sydenham high street.

I'm not a devotee of Starbucks, but I think it's a good edition to the high street. The more variety the better. But when I go for a coffee, it will still be to Cobbs Corner, which does good coffees and excellent food, especially the all-day English breakfast.
