Showdown Time: 6pm Friday July 18th @ Sydenham Station
The Mayor challenges senior railway managers to witness the chaos
Mayor Steve Bullock has demanded Southern & TfL meet him at Sydenham Station to witness the chaos and anger of commuters caused by the disasterous implementation of the Oystergates. Huge queues form, tickets are misread, people are forced to cross two bridges to get to the up platform. This can double the commuting time to and from London Bridge. Steve said:
“The installation of barriers is causing delays and inconvenience of a large scale as well as putting individuals who have mobility problems of any kind in a very difficult position …join me to hear directly from users directly how much inconvenience you are causing them”
We knew it was going to happen. SydSoc & other organisations warned Southern. They were fobbed off with weak excuses. Sadly the worst predictions have come true. Angry commuters have made Oystergate into the longest diatribe ever seen in our Town Forum.
As a result of the meeting Southern Rail have made this announcement:
As from Monday 28 July we will provide access to platform 1 for all passengers with a valid ticket from 0630 to 0930 and then from 1600 to 2000 on Mondays to Fridays. There will be a member of staff present to check and collect tickets. Outside of these times during the day (0930-1600) entry and exit will still be available via buzzer entry for those requiring level access on platform 1.
As from Monday 28 July we will be providing access to both platforms while the gates are in operation between 0600 and 2000 on Mondays to Saturdays. The access point from Perry Vale onto platform 2 will have a member of staff checking and collecting tickets during these hours.
