I have friends in a Green constituency. The party does seem rather split between the traditional Greens who were there for trying to get better environmental policies. Then we have the influx of new Greens who were looking for a party left of Labour. They are now the majority. I wonder where our councillors and mayor are on that spectrum?

Either way they are all going to hit a very steep learning curve of how to run a large and vital organisation. Especially with so little experience. But, for all our sakes, I hope they succeed and we do get more CPZ and LTNs. And some cycling infrastructure would be a bonus.

Weirdly the Greens leaflets majored on potholes - when Lewisham is one of the least worse London boroughs. I know because I live near the Bromley border >:-(

I’m hoping for segregated cycle lanes a d maybe a cycle super highway. Sydenham has been neglected for too long.

Heaven forbid. Sydenham is sitting under a permanent dust cloud because cars cannot travel fast enough to stir up the air. So much for "green".

Cyclists must be compelled to register their vehicles in the same way as car owners and so that their flagrant unsafe and illegal practices can be dealt with.

@ Just John I understand you might be making generalisations here and that you will know that not all cyclists act in the manner you describe. However I must point out that registration of motorists and their vehicles has not enabled those few who flout normal rules to be brought to book. I suggest therefore that registration is not perhaps the answer to deal with cyclists who act and cycle in an unreasonable manner.

I'd suggest encouraging empathy and humanity for us all together with education might be a more successful solution. Roads are for sharing - whatever one's choice of transport. We just have to behave better with each other and tolerate others.

"Nobody's perfect" as the enamoured millionaire Osgood (Joe E. Brown) said to Jerry (Jack Lemon) in the film Some like it Hot. Accepting that should help us all get along a lot better.

No. ALL cyclists, nowadays, break virtually every rule of the road and every time they journey. I am sick and tired of having to save their lives as they ride on the wrong side of the road, through red traffic lights, across the paths of other vehicles etc. Registration means they can be detected. Very few drivers drive illegally. The few that do either kill themselves or they are intercepted by the authorities. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN BE TRACED due to the registration mark.

Roads are not for sharing. They are built under the terms of a contract between the State and motorists, who stump up the money.

Getting back on topic. The new Green Mayor will tax pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and those of us who are all three or two alike mainly through a property tax. There is no contract between the Mayor and just one section of the community on how Lewisham should spent it on roads - not forgetting pavements.

It's up to us all to make our cases for how it be allocated. Not one transport mode can monopolise it - let alone a minority one. Life is seldom black and white but people have voted for a greener one.

The only tax he can use is Council Tax. Taxation is determined by National Government. Council Tax is one of the most regressive forms of taxation.

Worth noting that only 40% of 40% of the electorate voted Green. It is a party that advocates Proportional representation. Will it adjust representation to reflect its stated policy?

40% 0f 40% = 16% of the electorate... That is an even smaller proportion than Labour won at the General Election (18%)

And the re-instatement of the advance stop line outside Lidl to avoid being squeezed by that very dangerous concrete island on t'other side.

Painting it out is making it really dangerous. I couldn't get a sensible explanation from our previous councillor.

There is no room for a cycle lane. If you can stump up the money to buy land for a cycle lane then that would be a good idea. There is a safer route available to you using Addington Grove. Mayoh Park provides a safer route for the most part.

The snots have brought forward nothing new. They are a collective of disastisfied ultra hard left wingers who became disenchanted with the failed Labour Party. They have not provided a single workable policy for the local authority.

I thought at least part of Mayow Road is wide enough for a cycle lane on both lanes? If Sydenham Hill can have cycle lanes between Kirkdale and Westwood Hill despite some narrow sections, then I'd think Mayow Road can.

It’s not impossible. It was the lack of will

Plenty of room in Sydenham Road for a bus lane from Mayow Road to the Railway Bridge. There was a post at the time of the last 'improvement' showing how we could do it on the westbound uphill side and widen the pavements if you replaced the parking bays. Probably room for some disabled bays on the opposite side. That also would free the high street from delays as some parked cars then do a three point turn to go back home.

It's not that Sydenham doesn't have enough parking. Plenty of unused and unusable off-road parking in the Girton Road CP. Free on the High Street and paid in Girton Road has the obvious stupid result. Even paying (by app) is rather challenging. Hence we only use it after 6:30. I currently refuse to go to Lidl by bike - it feels too dangerous.

Abandon High Street parking and make Girton Road free again would appear to satisfy pedestrians, cyclists, bus passengers and motorists. Except those who won't walk 50 yards without moaning!

Any Green Party Councillors listening? Some visibility would be useful.
